What musical influences? I hated the stuff since the first day my
mom forced those piano lessons on me. I knew things would be
rough cause I'm the oldest of four kids and the guinea pig for every
new lame idea coming down the pipe. It didn't help that she had a
music degree from some big fancy university back in the days when
college meant something. She'd slam my tender young butt down on
the bench in front of her big Baldwin grand piano and the agony
would begin. Jack was gonna get some CULTURE, by cracky.
The whole music thing got a little more interesting in 9th grade
orchestra when the string bass (bull fiddle) came along and I met a
guy named Hyram Posey. He plays fiddle. You may have heard him
- he toured with George Strait, has recorded with Bon Jovi--- some
guy saw him playing with Blake Shelton in Denver not too long ago.
Hyram was my best friend through high school. Enough name
dropping already, he was no influence on me whatsoever (well, music
anyway). He told me to snag an axe and tag along, but I didn't. Mr.
Bender, affectionately known as "Fender" kept telling Hyram to lay
off that sorry music, it'd never amount to anything. It certainly
meant nothing to me cause after high school I never played a note on
anything till the mid 90's when I started trying again. Now I get to
hang with these fine taxpayers and citizens.
Pretty dull stuff, I know. It'll be better when you entertain us on the
dance floor soon.
